Day 27: My Top Female Inspirations (27/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Via FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 27: "List 3 online friends you've never met in real life but hope to soon."

I have met many online friends on Wikia, but I don't feel like writing about them. Instead, I will write about my 5 role models, both fictional and real.

5) Helen Keller
Despite her disabilities, she has created a large impact in this world. As an active writer myself, Ms. Keller has inspired me to write without a doubt in mind.
Other than an author of many books, she had been an advocate for the disabled and a lecturer.

"Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye."

4) Temperance Brennan from 'Bones'
Dr. Brennan is a "world-renowned forensic anthropologist." She is the main protagonist in the TV series 'Bones' and the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. Tempe is included in this list because she has a resilient persona. This is shown by her tremendous self-confidence, her unstoppable passion for her career, and the attitude she has towards animals.
Regardless of her inept ability to socialise and brutal honesty, she is my favourite fictional character and the source of my aspiration for a career in forensic anthropology.

"No matter what the anthropological reasons, we fight to make the world a better place."

3) Saint Maria Goretti
Saint Maria Goretti is my patron saint. She lived a rough childhood with her poor family at a farm eighty kilometers away from Rome. Maria was in charge of cooking, sewing, and looking after her infant sister while her family worked for the farmers. The Goretti-Carlini family had a deep connection with God.

At age eleven, she was stabbed repeatedly by her housemate, Alessandro Serenelli, for not obeying his instructions because "It is a sin! God does not want it!" She was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. She died while gazing at a picture of Mother Mary and clutching a cross to her chest.

"He loves, He hopes, He waits. Our Lord prefers to wait Himself for the sinner for years rather than keep us waiting an instant."

2) Jane Goodall
I admire this woman because she looks after wildlife and accepts them with all her heart. She is a quadruple threat: primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and the UN Messanger of Peace. Other credits include author & activist.

“We still have a long way to go. But we are moving in the right direction. If only we can overcome cruelty, to human and animal, with love and compassion we shall stand at the threshold of a new era in human moral and spiritual evolution—and realize, at last, our most unique quality: humanity.”

1) Every woman/girl I know in my everyday life
This includes my mother, Gwen & Regina, my female relatives, and the women/girls who keep me happy.

Day 26: My Favourite Food (26/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Credit to FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 26: "What's your favourite food?"

I have two types of favourite food: Filipino cuisine and Kiwi food.

My favourite food from the Philippines is called 'dinuguan'. To a foreigner, the ingredients would sound disgusting, but once you get to try it you'll understand why I enjoy it. Dinuguan consists of pork and its blood. Don't worry, we don't eat it raw; first it needs to be cooked, and then mixed with rice. My grandfather cooks the best style of dinuguan, but my parents don't know the secret recipe he uses.

In New Zealand, we have a Māori dish named steamed pudding. Steamed pudding is a simple dish which is basically vanilla pudding topped with warm cream. Every time I go to a Māori occasion I always fill myself up with steamed pudding. It is scrumptious!

Day 25: A Description of my Current Location (25/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Via FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 25: "Describe your location."

I am in my bedroom, the usual place where I write my blog posts. My bedroom is a clutter at the moment because I feel lethargic and sluggish (that is not a good reason, Marian!) from staying on the computer too much.

My guitar is in the left corner leaning on the bag hanger and the black luggage.

On the walls, you can find my learning wall from 2014 which I haven't bothered to take down, my self-portrait taken from 2011 and my two art projects.

On my brown desk, I see my calendar which was given to me from school, my pens and pencils and blank pieces of paper.

The top of my bookshelves house my beauty products, including two perfumes given to me by my two best friends, my mother's old jewellery box, and my body lotions. Inside the bookshelves contain my school books, my journals, and my novels.

You probably think that my bedroom looks fine, but the writing acts as a disguise for the mess in my bedroom.

Day 24: My Most Embarrassing Moment (24/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Day 24: "Describe your most embarrassing moment."

Oh, no. I have too many. It's difficult to pick only one of them.

I choose to describe the time when I released many negative posts on my Facebook wall, even though I have already mentioned it on this blog.

I was going through a depressed phase when I was feeling antagonistic against my life. To express my dark feelings, I wrote a series of Facebook posts saying, "I am sick & tired of this." or, "Everybody sucks."
There was a result of a turmoil. My mother nearly banned me from my laptop and my aunt began to worry about my wellbeing. This embarrassing time affected my reputation and still follows my every action, whether positive or miserable.

I'd like to warn other people to be cautious of what you post on your social media websites, especially if you are in my age group.

Day 22: "What do you do when you're home all alone?"

When my family is out in the front yard, I like to watch marathons of 'Bones.' I would be sitting on my bed and crying over Booth & Brennan's relationship in my dark room.

In other instances, I would read a novel, finish my chores or study my homework. I prefer to spend my alone time doing something beneficial.

Hobbiton Adventures (21/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Samantha E. and her family invited me to come along with them to the Hobbiton movie set today!

This is my second time visiting the movie set in Matamata. I came for the first time seven years ago in 2008.

The tour started with a sign saying, "Welcome to Hobbiton," as shown below. We walked up the hill and passed through some Hobbit Holes.

Most of the Hobbit Holes have a theme which gave us clues about their occupation. This particular Hobbit Hole gave us the idea that the Hobbit who lives here is a fisherman.

During the tour, the guide told us some facts. He mentioned that most of the trees on this set are artificial and that Peter Jackson chose this location for its viridescent and vibrant land.

The tour concluded with a relaxing free drink at the Green Dragon Pub. Since every drink had alcohol in it, Samantha & I were only to choose ginger beer.

Day 20: What Do I Collect? (20/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

via FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 20: "What do you collect?"

I collect journals. I have a collection of over ten journals now which I use for different purposes. Two of those purposes are to pre-write my blog posts and to memorise facts for my exams.
Every year I am supposed to have an A4 journal to write my thoughts in. I would bring that journal to school and basically everywhere I go. Everything, I write in my journals, is a way for my future self to reminisce what I was like at this age.

I also collect books. In my bookshelves, I have 17 books, including my Bible, a dictionary, and my eleven novels. To be honest, I haven't read all of them and prefer to borrow books from the library!

Other things, I tend to collect, are pictures from my past, school stationary, and bags. I choose not to write about them in this blog post because I have no intentions about these topics.

Day 19: The Top 5 Instagram Accounts I Follow

Dear MEDL,

Credit to FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 19: "List 5 blogs you read on a regular basis & why."

Since I don't read blogs, I will replace them with the top 5 Instagram accounts I follow & why.

5) @parisinfourmonths
Carin Olsson is a photographer who moves to France to "follow her dreams", as mentioned in her biography. Her photography captures colourful sceneries, delicious foods, and the bluest waters.
I enjoy this account because after viewing negative posts on my Instagram, her stunning photos enlighten my feed.

4) @blogilates
Cassey Ho is a Youtuber and a fitness instructor. Her photos inspire me to get off of my chair and exercise. I follow her also because she motivates me to become a happy person and to enjoy life as it is.

3) Every 'Bones' themed account on Instagram
Honourable mentions are @omgdeschanel, @thattimethatplace, and @squint.squad.
Because 'Bones' is the best.

2) @minimalistbaker
Dana Shultz is a cook and a food blogger. Dana and her husband run a website named minimalistbaker.com where they create "simple, delicious recipes that require 10 ingredients or less, one bowl, or thirty minutes to prepare."

1) @nois7
I discovered this account on Buzzfeed and as soon as I saw those pictures it was a necessity to follow him.
Robert Jahns is a digital artist and a freelance art director, as said in his biography. He makes beautiful edits which possess you into thinking that you live in a fantasy world.

Dear MEDL,

Credit to FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 18: "Where are you happiest?"

It really depends on how I feel. If I'd gone through the worst day ever, I would prefer to lie down alone in bed reading the perfect book. If I have had something august happened to me recently, I'd choose to be surrounded by assiduous people.

When I'm surrounded by books, musical instruments, or radiant things/people, I turn my 'happy' switch on instantly. I am also happiest when I'm talking to the souls which are above us in heaven.

Receiving awards make me blissful. Seeing my loved ones receive commendations also makes me cheerful and thankful to know that I have talented friends and family members.

When are you happiest? Let me know on Facebook or enter it in the comment section.

Day 17: Why & When Did I Start Blogging? (17/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Credit to FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 17: "Why & when did you start blogging?"

In February, 2012, I created an account on Blogger. My primary school used Blogger to show what we were studying to make the classroom more interactive. Due to this, I decided that writing about my everyday life would be useful to improve my English skills and display what I was like as a pre-teen.

Later in June, I created 'Marian's Everyday Life', a blog where I would post about my daily activities. Some of the posts included what I learned at school, how I spent my sick days, and basically every little thing a young girl does in her life.

I created more blogs in 2012, including 'Marian the Anime and Vocaloid Lover', and 'Electra & Marian' (previously known as 'Stuff 'n' Nonsense, Bits 'n' Bobs'). I made 'Marian the Anime and Vocaloid Lover' in August, 2012 because my obsession with Anime & Vocaloids were strong enough to write about. In the end, the blog became inactive in less than a year.
'Stuff 'n' Nonsense, Bits 'n' Bobs' was created in December. The purpose of the blog was to express my creativity through blogging. The blog eventually changed its name to 'Electra & Marian' in May, 2012 because the blog title was too long and the theme was also altered.

Flash forward to today. Both of my main blogs will turn 3 years old this year; MEDL on June 12 and E&M on December 15. Thank you for reading my blog posts all this time.

Day 13: "My Biggest Regret" (13/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Credit to FabulousFindsByTiffany.com
Day 13: "Do you have a regret?"

Do I have a regret? Even though I've lived on this planet for a short time, I have made a countless amount of regrets.

Last year, I completed an open-book exam on the Native Americans. The test asked questions like, "What problems did [the settlers] encounter while on their way to the West?"
I didn't use my social studies notes but instead created my own story, which included something like, "their sister died when they ran out of food."
My class & I received our results the next day and I earned a horrifying grade which I'm frightened to write about.

On social media websites, I have written negative comments and posts. Most of them read, "Ew, I look horrible in this picture!" and, "Why didn't you ask permission from me to post this online?"
Up to now, I don't think before I comment. It's quite sidetracking that other people post rude sentiments that it influences you to duplicate their actions.

I regret not taking action whenever someone was in need. I regret procrastinating every time I receive an assignment. I regret showing no appreciation to the important people in my life. And finally, I regret not taking the time to improve myself and others.

Day 12: "Something that you miss."

I miss the important people in my life, like my family in the Philippines and my teachers and friends at school.

Gwen is my best friend (as I've told you) and so far in the end-of-year break we have seen each other once in real life and multiple times chatting on social media. She told me that so far she has been bored and that she's missing Alan. Hold on there, Gwen!

I also miss the time when people didn't insult different stereotypes. When can teenage girls live their lives without being offended by other people? We all need to know our differences, and what makes us all unique and recognizable.

I'm sorry that today's post is short, but I promise that tomorrow will be long enough for you all to read.

I Went Outside Today! (11/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

I went outside today! This doesn't often occur in my holidays. My family & I tried to travel to several scenic parks, but instead we got lost in the outback. Don't worry, we came back to our city (if we were still lost I wouldn't be writing this blog entry.), ate pizza at a local park, and went shopping at the mall. The only bad thing (apart from a personal problem), that happened this afternoon, was that my mother & I got a little bit carsick by being driven from place to place.

Day 11: "The last book you read."

The last book, I read, was my science textbook called 'SciPAD book 1.' The reason, why I read this book before school starts, is because I'd like to get a grip on what I'm supposed to study this year. My favourite topic in this textbook is the fist chapter called 'Introduction to the Lab.' Overall, I am excited to use this book later this year.

Day 9: "What's On Your Life List/Bucket List?" (9/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Credit to fabulousfindsbytiffany.com
Day 9: "What's on your life list/bucket list."

Marian's Bucket List:
  • Pass all exams with flying colours
This year I'm planning to focus on the subjects I'm most vulnerable at which are science and social studies. When I complete NCEA I hope to receive merits/excellences.
  • Finish high school
While I am at high school, I'd like to join as many co-curricular activities mainly to do with music and academics. Once I reach year thirteen I plan to become the music or languages captain.
  • Attend a successful University and double major in psychology/anthropology and minor in forensic science
When I say, "a successful University," I mean the recognizable Universities like Yale or Auckland. Hopefully, I'll do well enough to join these schools.
  • Receive a Ph.D. in forensic anthropology (or psychology or just anthropology)
I'd probably like to study for it once I have gained the other degrees and while I'm already working for a big company.
  • Start a family
The time I prefer to get married is when I've finished all of the above. Estimated around the time of my late 20s - early 30s.

These seem like average goals to you, but to me they are horrifying. I can't even count how many times I would suffer to reach these goals.

What are some things that are on your bucket list? Tell me on the MEDL Facebook page or comment below.

Thank you for reading today's blog post.

Day 8: "Biggest Pet Peeve" (8/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Credit is in the picture.
Day 8: "Biggest pet peeve."

A list of my biggest pet peeves:
- When people don't use their signal while driving (although I am not a driver yet)
- People who drink straight out of the carton/bottle
- Classmates who ask irrelevant questions
- TVs, computers, or anything technological left switched on
- People with bad manners
- People who disrespect sacred places (like church or cemeteries)
- Drivers who use their mobile phones while in the middle of driving
- People who interrupt me while in the middle of talking
- When parents make a Facebook or any other social media profile for their babies
- Unequal equations, shapes, or anything that can be unequal (inequality)
- INCORRECT GRAMMAR
- People who don't hug me when I'm sad (I'M GIVING YOU A SIGN!)
- People who use cursive words in front of children
- HYPOCRITES (although I can be one)
- LITTERBUGS
- People who use the 'word' "umm" too many times

The pet peeves, which are in capital letters, are the biggest ones I have.

Incorrect grammar is a massive nuisance to me. 'Your/ you're' and 'their/there/they're' are all different, and are easy to understand. Punctuation is also very simple to understand.

Littering is a very big issue on this planet, but people still continue to do it. There would be a rubbish bin 50 centimeters away, but I can still see an empty can of Coke in front of me.

I'm sorry for this very short blog post, but thank you for taking your time to read it. Stay power and beautiful as usual.

Shopping for Stationary! (7/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

There are exactly three weeks and one day until school starts for me so my mother & I went shopping for school supplies today! I adore shopping for school stationary because you can start the year off with new things. This year I'm supposed to start using textbooks and for some reason I have a habit of being obsessed with them.

After getting everything I needed, me and my mother travelled to the library and read through the textbooks. The maths textbook contained information I was already informed of, but the science textbook looked challenging to study. Isn't it unusual that I consider maths to be easy while I struggle with science?

Day 7: "What is your dream job?"

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE DAY! I've been desperate to write about this.

Most of the people in my life already know what I'd like to be when I finish schooling. I want to become a forensic anthropologist. It seems like the last career to think about since I am miserable at science, but the TV show 'Bones' inspired me to become a forensic anthropologist, although some of what they mention on the show is scientifically inaccurate.

Forensic anthropology is used to solve how a corpse died, what it looked like before, and who killed them when the body is in the advanced stages of decomposition.

When I was younger, I wanted to become a restaurant owner, a baker, a princess (when I was 3-6 years old), a psychologist, a mathematician, and now a forensic scientist. I still want to become a mathematician, a psychologist, or a forensic scientist up to now.

For people who haven't finished school, what would you like to be when you grow up? And for the people who already have a job, what kind of job did you want to have when you were younger?

Day 6: "Your Last Random Act of Kindness" (6/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

I did nothing today but stay in bed and use my laptop. If this type of day occurs, I will skip ahead to the blogging challenge.

Day 6: "Your last random act of kindness."

I'm not meaning to brag in the following paragraphs, but I guess my last random acts of kindness were when I wasn't asked to do chores around the house. I am a neat freak and when I see sinks full of dishes, the TV still on (more like an energy conserver), or a stain on someone's shirt, I immediately clean it up. It's like a reflex of mine.

I remember last year in my form class I handed out coloured cards each with different compliments. One said, "You are adorable. Have a sweet day! You deserve it!" and the response from my class was positive. It felt great giving them out.

Me & My Girls (5/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

Today I went outside which doesn't happen many times during these holidays. Ariel, Helena, Amelia, Keisha and I visited various places in the local area.

Firstly, we went swimming at the public pools. They decided to swim in the deep pool which made me scared because I can't swim confidently in deep pools, but five minutes later, I gained the ability which I didn't have in the first place! There was a time when a diving trampoline was offered and Helena had the desire to try it out. I persuaded her to try it out with Amelia and eventually she did.

After one hour, we left the place and drove to the Cloud 9 of many twelve-year-olds named Starbucks. We sipped our frappuccinos, devoured some sushi, and spoke casual conversation.

On our way to the mall, I couldn't finish my drink and everybody already had. It was a little bit ironic since everyone had venti frappes while I had a grande sized cup. Once I finished my drink, we mostly window shopped but eventually Helena bought "the sourest candy in the world," according to the shopkeeper.

At the end of the day, Keisha & I headed home while Ariel, Helena, and Amelia went to Helena's house to film their reactions to the candy they bought.

Day 5: "Favourite movies you never get sick of watching."

Say whatever you want about how girly I am and I won't mind. I never get sick of the 'Princess Diaries' first movie because I adore the book series and the chemistry between Michael Moscovitz & Mia Thermopolis. My favourite part is the ending, when Mia chooses to be the princess of Genovia, makes up with Lily, and eventually starts a relationship with Michael (swoon alert!).

'The Perks of a Wallflower' is a movie Gwen & I obsess over. Not only is it starring one of my female role models, I admire that the characters aren't boring high schoolers, like in most movies. It's quite queer of me to like this movie since I don't like the rebellious kind of teenagers.

Every Disney princess movie has this positive effect that makes me calm and happy in stressful situations. When a song from a Disney princess movie comes on, I get extremely distracted from whatever I'm doing and tend to sing along. Is that 'Colours of the Wind' playing in the background? I NEED TO FIND OUT. *starts to sing, "But still I cannot see, if the savage one is me."*

As you can possibly tell, I am not a huge movie junkie. I rarely go to the movies and if I do it's probably for a special occasion, like my birthday, or a movie I've been desperate to watch.

Thank you for reading this blog entry! I'm sorry to the people who came from Facebook that this did not come early in the day in terms of NZDT (it is 1:50 now.)

Stay powerful and beautiful as usual.

Fishing Failure (4/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

This morning I came back from the fishing trip I wrote to you about. Helena's, Ariel's, our other friends' and my family came along. This was my first time going fishing and, as expected, caught nothing. Ariel managed to catch a red net, the closest thing that the three of us girls caught. Ariel, Helena, and our fathers stayed up until 4:00 am trying to catch fish while my mother, our other friends and I passed out and slept at 1:00 am.

And now I'm in a rush trying to write this post before midnight and as I type this sentence I have approximately one hour and 35 minutes left.

"Day 4: Best Childhood Memory."

Since 2012, I have been recording moments of my life on this blog. My favourite childhood memory that I have written about on this blog is my year six camp experience. This was memorable because it tested the year sixes what living with roommates was like instead of family members. It also brought us to magnificent places we would probably never visit again in our entire lives. Overall, it was a perfect five days with best friends.

Some honourable mentions include binge-reading the 'Baby-Sitters' Club' series and basically everything positive that happened at primary/intermediate school.

Thanks for reading today's post!

What Makes You Happy? (3/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

I had a lazy day today doing nothing but binge-watch 'Bones.' Tonight my family, friends & I are going to fish at a beach.

"Day 3: What makes you happy?"

Many things make me put a smile on my face. These many things include being surrounded with positive people, writing in my journal/reading a book, cooking/baking a scrumptious treat and learning new things.

As much as I suck at it, cooking/baking always entertains me. It makes me feel like a witch when I mix a lot of ingredients and turn it into a delectable dish.

Writing in my journal/blogs makes me happy because someday when I'm an adult with a job and a second family I can look back at how I was at this age. I can also express my creativity in words.

Reading books is a beautiful method of experiencing creative works in the form of words. The main reasons why reading books makes me happy is because you can escape from a horrible situation and play another character for a while.

Of course, learning new things would be on this list. I figure that knowing how to do certain things can shape a person's character.

And finally, surrounding yourself with positive people will also cause you to be positive. I find that the most positive people whom I know are my friends, family and teachers.

I'd like to ask you, "What makes you happy?"
Is it your passion for science/art? Is it also positive people like your closest friends? I'd really like to know.

Thank you for reading today's post!

Are We Out of the Woods Yet? (2/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

This day was extremely tiring! Considering that I am such a lazy person, my level of "tiring" is lower than proactive people. My family & I headed down to a scenic reserve near our city and walked through all of the tracks. The signboards displayed that the tracks were all 20 minutes, but it was all LIES that they were showing. It took two hours to walk from the start to finish and vice versa. I do admit that I was complaining many times because I'm as inactive as a sloth. As I write this in bed I regret crying over a walk that could connect me with nature and my family.

My family (minus my mother) walking through the forest.

Happy New Year 2015! (1/1/15)

Dear MEDL,

2014 accelerated at such a speed I couldn't handle, but here we are in 2015, which is dreamlike.

What was your New Year celebration like? Was is spent delightfully with your loved ones? Mine was magnificent and well spent with friends and family.

Last night my family & I celebrated by watching the fireworks at the local park, a tradition we've been following for three years now. The only bad thing about it was the rain pouring heavily and drenching our clothes.

I'd like to begin 2015 with a lot of blog posts since I only posted 33 posts last year (hehe, "last year"), so I'm taking a blogging challenge I found on Pinterest.

via fabulousfindsbytiffany.com
The first day calls for a self-portrait and five random facts about me, so here you go:

A self-portrait I took in Jan. 2014. Does a selfie count?
1: I start secondary school this year
2: My favourite Disney princess is Belle
3: The TV show 'Bones' inspired my interest in forensic anthropology
4: I cannot draw nor do anything artsy as all my other friends can.
5: This is my favourite song at the moment:
I love this song because of the beautiful soprano voice of Judy Kuhn, the anger in Lea Salonga's singing, and Michael Ball's excitement clearly heard in his vocals. The ending is supremely magical.

Like always, thank you for reading today's blog post and may you have a lovely 2015!
